28 January ~ 2021 / Stories

Below is my winter 2021 story for the students in the classrooms I would normally visit. It is a story I have told before, based on ‘The Secret Footprints’ by Julia Alvarez. I recorded the story on Christmas Day atop a sandstone monolith of the Entrada Formation, in Robbers Roost Country south of Green River, Utah. Sorry about the occasional wind noise and airplane flying over. I turned on close captions by default.

I recorded videos each day while the dogs and I were out exploring, and pointed out some of the interesting plants, trees, wildlife, tracks, rock formations, and native american chippings and rock art, with the idea that students might be watching along. All of the videos are inserted below. The beginning of video 5 is exploration of some very nice rock art from the Fremont Culture in the bookcliffs near Green River. Beginning at 3:30 of video 4 are some chippings near a possible winter camping area used by native americans and some possible stone pestles for grinding that were on the ground nearby. And beginning around 11:20 of video 5 is some exposed sandstone with ripples in the rock from an ancient sea floor!

The last video is a slide show with music of our Christmas week in Canyon Country. Please watch them as little or as much as you would like. Thanks and be well!

( .. set your youtube video to HD for the best quality - click on the tool in the bottom right to change it. (especially important for the slide show with music) Also, move your mouse pointer off the video to hide the title so it doesn't get in the way. )
