30 November ~2018

I am enjoying spending these long winter nights going through my photos and videos of the clear South Pacific sea around Niue. My new ones are below, with the videos at the bottom of the page.

As much as I enjoyed Niue, I decided my destination next year will be the coral triangle of Indonesia. I want to see it while I am still young enough to be mobile. ( I turned 67 last week) Part of the enjoyment in wanderlust is learning about your destination, and I have started that, with several books from the library about Indonesia.

My trip is already ticketed with the airlines (United and Silk Air), and I have ordered some new long free diving fins, since I had trouble in the current at Niue with my split fins. I found that United Airlines has a carbon offset program, and I was able to purchase enough wind farm shares to offset the CO2 that my round trip flight from Denver to Singapore will consume. I have someone good to watch the dogs while I am gone, so I don't worry about them much. They get to have a hike everyday, in the foothills, with other dogs, so it is like a vacation to them also. Mollie and Hayley both love Katia so much I am not sure they are all that upset about me being gone. Beau misses me, but the nice thing is I have a remote connection set up where I can call in via wifi. My home computer answers and I can talk to the dogs and see them in real time. The system worked perfectly from 5000 miles away in the South Pacific. The dogs get excited at hearing my voice - they know the routine and know I will be back soon.

So I have another trip to look forward to, along with the hope & expection of adventure, beauty, and wonder that it will entail. I will spend 2019 trying to stay in shape for it - swimming at the rec enter and hiking with the dogs through timberline to the alpine.

It is amazing how much my life has changed since I retired three seasons ago. Instead of sitting in an office as the days, weeks, months and years of life pass by, I am out enjoying this beautiful state and then travelling around the world to the most majestic oceans on the planet. I enjoyed programming, but I still get to do that on my website (see JWimages.html, which is coded in php and jquery.)
