I didn’t expect to be alone just as I was entering my fifties, but you can’t convince someone to love you, you have to let them go. I am proud how I handled that transition, the biggest of my life other than getting married. Instead of turning to drink, I stayed cold sober, and headed up into wilderness with my two border collies as often as I could. Us three spent countless nights under the stars, exploring new places, and growing our love for each other and the wild landscape. That set me right, and I am eternally grateful for the adventures I had with my two dogs.

Here is a slide show I put together of Ben and Maggie, who are watching from Dog Heaven now.

The song on the video is 'You Are The Reason', Violin Cover by Nanda Candra

“A good dog never dies. He always stays. He walks besides you on crisp autumn days when frost is on the fields and winter's drawing near. His head is within our hand in his old way.” ― Mary Carolyn Davies

“ "Wherever you go, go with all your heart"
